What to keep in mind when mixing is that first of all: each and every parameter is significant to the outcome so be sure to take your time to fully understand what each of the parameters does to a sound. Because a compressor is a very powerful yet versatile tool. It will be much easier from that point on I can promise you that.
And when you are completely new to audio production and absolutely do not know what a compressor does let’s try this: set all the values to their extreme and then lower the threshold. In our case attack at 0.1ms, release at 10ms, ratio at 8:1 and down we go. You can immediately hear what a compressor does: the sound gets squashed and more dense.
